It started and stopped raining four times on my way to this session. The weather report was uncertain, the sky was ominous, the light was fading fast. What to do? Pray. (Seriously). The window of opportunity for this session to happen was narrow, and extensive preparations had already been put forth, including hand-sewn ties for all of the grandsons and dresses for the granddaughters. The entire family was in Utah for their reunion. The stars had already been lined up. With calm confidence my client told me over the phone that she knew it would work out, so we proceeded as planned.  I think this wise mother of 10 surely has experience in keeping things calm.   An incredible rainbow appeared just as I was minutes from arriving. A good sign?

Then, “lights, camera, action!” We moved through the main group shots rather quickly and smoothly.

Within moments of wrapping up the grandparents- grandchildren shots, the rain came back, the lightening and thunder popped and my hair began to frizz out because of the humidity. We hustled to move our equipment to the protection of the porch. We set up a “mock studio” inside the home, and finished the session with out a major hitch. The kids were darling as they worked hard for chocolate doughnuts. We did it, rain and shine!

So with a group of this size we opted to photograph each smaller group separately inside the house with the plan of putting together a composite image that will likely be printed as a panoramic canvas.  Here is a screen shot of my work in progress:.

And more images from part 2 of our photo session . . .

{Baby needs his long awaited chocolate doughnut!! :) }

{I can’t help but thinking, “. . . All because two people fell in love.”}

Thank you to the amazing S. family for a great session!  I am so honored to have been entrusted with creating these portraits.  I can’t wait to present the whole collection of portraits to you!

Did you feel the crisp bit of chill in the air this morning? Are you sending the kids off to school? Packing away the summer clothes yet? Yes folks, it is that time again. Time for family pictures before the weather turns south and we get snowed in!

We enjoyed a rather spontaneous family outing to Big Cottonwood Canyon last Friday . . . we planned on taking a few pictures up there, but ended up taking a ton. We even took a few of a bull moose! The light was gorgeous, the wildflowers were still hanging in there (despite a dusting of snow the day previous!), and most of all, my family was lovely and cooperative to allow me the time to set up my off-camera flash and such. I love these people- they are the reason why I feel photos are so important. I cherish photos of my family, especially as my kids are growing and changing so quickly. My oldest will be getting braces, just got a major haircut and starts third grade this week. My second daughter just got bangs cut, and is looking forward to her first day of first grade and school lunch- where did the time go? My little buddy starts preschool next week . . . he can hardly wait to take his “Lightening McQueen” backpack. My baby did a “test run” at church nursery yesterday- though she’s still two months shy of eligible age. She loved sitting in the little chairs and eating raisins and animal crackers. She wasn’t too keen on other toddlers in her personal space, but did love “people watching.”

So . . . get your loved ones together and make it happen. Lets create a family portrait. Each family is made up of different ingredients, flavors and dynamics–so our goal is to tailor each session to create images that reflect who you are and what you’re about. We can’t wait to see you! Our fall sessions book quickly- Sept-November are by far the busiest months of the year for our studio. Call 801.770.2640 (the studio) or email us to get on the fall schedule. Sessions are $125 + tax and our returning customers receive a $25 discount. High res. images on disc and/ or prints are purchased separately.

These amazingly talented, athletic, good-looking kids are growing up right before my eyes! This is the third time I have had the wonderful opportunity to photograph the M. Family, and each time is always a treat. They are ALL so photogenic that they just cannot take a bad picture.

Oh my gosh…we almost got trampled by a bunch of horses while photographing this darling new little family! We wanted to use this old red barn and lush pasture as the backdrop for this family portrait, but the horses did not like visitors in their field! So we jumped to plan B- and still had a successful session with a ton of great images!

It was so nice to do a session in beautiful Bend, Oregon for the wonderful S. Family. Even though the weather was a bit chilly for May- you all put on your best smiles and made the photographer very happy!
L. I hope you enjoy your Mother’s Day gift from your thoughtful children who love you very much!

I love, love, these images! Not only are they of some of my very favorite people in the world, I love the bright color scheme, and massive personality packed in every image.
J. & K. thanks again for flying me up to Oregon to photograph your wonderful family- H. and I had such a memorable time.
K. I think all of our driving around and scouting out for the perfect location definitely paid off- these images look great!

When you have two little ones under the age of 3, all you have going for you during a photo shoot is pure bribery! I love these candid images that capture the stage of “toddler chaos” in my dear friends lives. K. & J. you both are such great parents, and you can tell that your kids just love and adore the both of you.  Enjoy!

Amy- now this doesn’t get you out of your post of your favorite images! I can’t wait to see what editing you do, and what your artistic eye sees with these fabulous images!

Boys, you’re already heartbreakers with those big brown eyes and rosy cheeks! It has been amazing to watch you grow through your first year!

At your newborn session you were so itty bitty and sweet- I was so excited to photograph you just a couple of weeks before my baby was born!

For your blessing pictures- you were filling out and packing on the “chub.”

Six months and there you were, sitting up and discovering the world around you.

So here you are, celebrating one year and you are so handsome and delightful . . . and busy!  I’m so glad your mom and dad allowed me to photograph your amazing first year!
