As a professional photographer I am thoroughly dedicated to creating quality images that will stand the test of time. As a family historian I am committed to capturing the authentic image of you and your family. This pursuit of authenticity has shaped the way I interact with my clients and the final product: your portrait.

When you look back at the photos from our session, I want you to remember the place and time  and more importantly HOW it felt to experience your wedding day, or seeing your baby for the first time; how it felt to snuggle close to your family, the excitement of high school graduation. These REAL moments inspire me to be at the right time and the right place, with the technical expertise and artistic creativity to document your memories in a real and flattering way.

I LOVE being a photographer- I’ve been honing my craft since 3rd grade when I saved up for a 110 film camera/ coin bank. The viewfinder was a plastic pop-up frame with no glass in sight. This primitive tool allowed me to translate beauty I saw in every day life into something tangible: a record of my experience in life. Later, I pursued a degree in art education where I taught photography to junior high students and I was the one to eagerly stay after school to practice my darkroom print developing. In the early stages of Tilt Photography I invested in a studio location, and over time discovered that my true element is to photograph my subjects where they are most comfortable: in their homes, or outdoors. I love the spontaneity of clouds and sun flare and the occasional windstorm. I especially like to photograph beautiful moments experienced by real people. I no longer have a studio location and now feel I can focus on my authentic style.

When you invest in a custom portrait session, you will receive my full attention and expertise.

BEFORE THE SESSION: We will discuss locations & clothing options beforehand. I will ask you a few questions: how formal/ casual is your family? Do you have a special place you are hoping to place a portrait? Tell me what colors you love to decorate with? Tell me about the members of your family? Is there something you love to do together? Your responses help me to prepare for your session and allow me to connect with you.

TIME: My signature session lasts 60-90 minutes. If you are a high school senior, this allows you time for a few wardrobe changes. If you are a newborn, you’ll have time to eat and get a diaper change (or three). If you are a couple, you’ll have time to sneak in a few extra kisses. If you are a family, we’ll have time for individual portraits of each child, plus mom & dad together, and a couple of different set ups of your family group (candid and posed).

IMAGES: After our session, I will personally edit the top 35-50 images to be properly color corrected, sharpened with minor retouching. You will have the option to view your session online before purchasing the prints/ high res. cd. I also offer an in-home ordering session with a slideshow viewable on your home tv. The majority of my clients purchase the high res.cd at the time of the session. This image disc be ready within 2 weeks of your session, and includes a personal printing license. When you order custom wall portraits from us, each image will be individually edited and printed in a professional lab.

EQUIP MENT: My investment in high end canon professional camera bodies and lenses ensures a high quality product. I also maintain a “buff” computer and photo archives to keep up with my sessions. I own back up equipment and portable lighting for unforseeable circumstances. I prefer to utilize simple props, chairs, etc. in your session rather than an elaborate set up which tends to become a distraction in your portrait. You are welcome to bring a few things that you love if it will have meaning in your portraits such as a favorite blanket, an old guitar, a kite, a special toy, a picnic basket, etc.
